A Private Lesson Is My Gift To Myself

A Private Lesson Is My Gift To Myself

Ladies and gentlemen .... come 4th March 2006, SalsaJay is honored to have Miss Candice Leong from BAILATTELO DANCE ACADEMY giving Ladies Styling, Footwork and Shines classes. Please be informed that this class is only open to intermediate/advance salsa students only.

Some bio on Candice

Candice was born in Hong Kong, but grew up in the Hispanisized island of the Phillipines. From a young age she did ballet, jazz dancing, and then progressed to The Art of Striptease and hip-hop, and was always active in the performing arts. Candice started dancing salsa 5 years ago and has been addicted to it ever since. Candice strongest characteristic in her dance is her strong sexuality and sensuality, which comes from her love of music and dance, and is expressed in her movement. She has a seductive nature on the dance floor, which is both flirtatious, and intoxicating. Candice has starred as a salsa dancer on Dance, a pilot TV show on Channel 4, A music video for Groove Factory, Human Instinct a programme for the BBC, Auf Wiedersein, Pet for the BBC, amongst other televised appearances. She is also the current British Salsa Champion, and a two year consecutive place winner of the Tropicana Salsa Championships.

The Ladies Styling classes will incorporate styling in the basic steps, and work it’s way up to body isolations and good movement, as well as incorporating arm and body movement in footwork.

Candice believes that a good styling class needs to be a good combination 3 things:

  1. Repetition - To truly get the body accustomed to doing movements it is not used to.
  2. Challenge - To give the girls focus and something to strive for.
  3. Understanding of body placement and movement - To understand why you do a movement and where it may be possible to do it, not to just Watch and Repeat

The Footwork and Shines Classes are open to both men and women. These classes are all about training more than just learning. Salsa can be quite an advanced dance form if the dancer wants it to be, and will then require a lot of body control. This class will give you a good mix of exercises as well as teach you new moves and how to improvise with them on the dance floor.

  • Train to keep the rhythm.
  • Correct Body Movement and Arm Movement
  • Spinning & Turn technique
  • Form and increase your repertoire of shines (pasitos, step combinations).
  • Learn how to improvise. Go from the basic steps into your flashy moves and then back to the basic steps.
  • Understanding of body placement and movement - To understand why you do a
movement and where it may be possible to do it, not to just Watch and
    Repeat
